Senior forward/midfielder Emily Rogers (Traverse City/Central) and sophomore forward Lisa O'Brian (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) of the 2003 Ferris State University women's soccer squad both have been named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First-Team as announced by the league office.
Rogers and O'Brian represent Ferris' only first-team all-league selections in the five-year history of the program. In addition, junior forward Jen Gaylor (Roscommon) attained second-team All-GLIAC kudos in balloting by the league's member head coaches.
Eleven players each were named to both the first and second teams. Ferris State was one of four schools to have two or more first-team honorees along with Grand Valley State, Ashland and Mercyhurst.
The trio led Ferris to an 11-5-1 overall mark this campaign under first-year head coach Melissa Eging, which represented the program's best performance in its five-year history and included a fourth-place 5-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) finish.
Rogers, who received the squad’s Most Valuable Offensive Player Award for the fourth consecutive year, set school single-season records with 38 total points and 12 assists this campaign. She ranked second overall among the GLIAC’s leaders this season in assists (0.71 apg), third in points (2.24 ppg) and fifth in goals (0.76 gpg). The 2000 All-GLIAC Second-Team honoree also tallied the league’s second-best mark with four game-winning goals in 2003. Rogers earned the GLIAC’s Player of the Week Award (Oct. 10) following back-to-back multiple goal efforts at Northwood (10/2) and versus Saginaw Valley State (10/5). She finished the year ranked 10th in assists and 22nd in points among the NCAA Division II’s national statistical leaders. The 5-6 Rogers concluded her career as Ferris' all-time leader in points (119), goals (45) and assists (29).
The 5-6 O'Brian's team-best 15 goals this campaign represented the school's top individual single-season performance. She also tied for the team lead with four game-winning goals and placed second in total points (33). O'Brian, who presently ranks as Ferris' second all-time leading scorer and goal producer with 45 points and 19 markers, was selected the GLIAC's Player of the Week (Sept. 3) following her personal career-high three goals at Lewis (Aug. 30) which ranks tied for second place to date among FSU's all-time single-game goal scoring leaders. O'Brian placed fourth in the GLIAC in goals (0.88 gpg) and was sixth in points (1.94 ppg) this campaign. She ranked third among the team's scoring leaders with 14 points on four goals and four assists in 2002.
