Nov. 6: Ferris Men Conclude Season At Regional Meet

The Ferris State University men's cross country team concluded the 2004 campaign with an 18th place finish at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships held Saturday (Nov. 6) in Edwardsville, Ill.

The Bulldogs totaled 471 points in the 10K event. Grand Valley State placed first (65 points), Hillsdale was second (86) and Wayne State took third place (105).

Freshman Jared Kelsh finished 54th overall in the field of 127 runners with a time of 34:21.33 in leading the Bulldogs. Freshman Nate Penny took 77th place (35:15.95), sophomore Chase Gibson was 112th (36:57.11), freshman Nick Evans captured 116th place (37:35.25) and sophomore Darren Donakowski placed 117th (37:38.25). Sophomore Barrington Dykes was 120th (37:54.36) for FSU.

The Ferris State University men's cross country team took 10th place in the 2004 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships held Saturday (Oct. 23) at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Hudsonville, Mich.

The Bulldogs totaled 271 points in the 8K event. Host Grand Valley State placed first (36 points), Hillsdale was second (57) and Wayne State captured third place (76) in the 12-team field.

Freshman Jared Kelsh finished 31st overall in the field of 130 runners with a time of 26:52.10 in leading the Bulldogs. Freshman Nate Penny placed 43rd (27:07.2).

Sophomore Darren Donakowski was 94th overall (28:55.3), freshman Nick Evans took 98th place (29:07.2), sophomore Barrington Dykes finished 101st (29:12.2) and sophomore Chase Gibson was 110th (29:40.1) while sophomore Justin Barts placed 112th overall (29:54.2).

The Bulldogs will take part in the NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Championships Saturday, Nov. 6, beginning at 11 a.m. (EST) in Edwardsville, Ill.

Oct. 8: Ferris Places 12th In Michigan Intercollegiate Championships

The Ferris State men's cross country team finished 12th overall in the 8K division of Friday's (Oct. 8) annual Michigan Intercollegiate Championships held at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Hudsonville, Mich.

The Bulldogs totaled 285 points in the 15-team division. Saginaw Valley State placed first (49 points), Wayne State was second (77) and Lake Superior State finished third overall (152).

Freshman Jared Kelsh finished 18th overall in the field of 129 runners with a time of 26:32 in leading the Bulldogs. Freshman Nate Penny placed 49th (27:23) on the 8K course. Freshman Ray Rollet was 54th overall (27:30), freshman Nick Evans took 83rd place (28:15), sophomore Chase Gibson finished 96th (28:44) and sophomore Darren Donakowski was 101st (29:06).

Sophomore Barrington Dykes was 104th overall (29:17) and junior Justin Barts took 106th place (29:29) for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs return to Hudsonville for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships Saturday, Oct. 23, beginning at 11 a.m. (EDT) at Rolling Hills Golf Course.

The Ferris State men's cross country team placed 11th in the "Maroon" division at the 32nd annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational held Saturday (Oct. 2) on Montrose Avenue Beach in Chicago, Ill.

The Bulldogs totaled 350 points in the 32-team field. Nike and Fleet Feet sponsored the annual event which featured over 50 collegiate teams, 35 high school teams and 20 elementary schools, making it one of the largest meets in the country.

The "Maroon" division included NCAA Division II and III schools as well as NAIA institutions and Canadian Colleges participating in the meet. Wisconsin-Parkside won the divisional crown with 57 points while Carthage (Wis.) placed second with 88 points.

Freshman Jared Kelsh finished 11th overall in the field of 313 runners with a time of 26:06 in leading the Bulldogs. Freshman Nate Penny placed 72nd (27:29) on the 8K course. Freshman Ray Rollet was 89th overall (27:42), freshman Nick Evans took 98th place (27:53), sophomore Darren Donakowski finished 124th (28:20) and sophomore Barrington Dykes was 126th (28:21).

Junior Justin Barts was 181st overall (29:21) and sophomore Chase Gibson took 198th place (29:43) for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will take part in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships Friday, Oct. 8, at Hudsonville, Mich. The event, which will be hosted by Grand Valley State, is set to begin at 4 p.m. (EDT).

Sept. 24: Ferris Finishes Fourth In Home Invitational

The Ferris State University men's cross country team took fourth place in Friday's (Sept. 24) 29th running of the annual Bulldog Invitational held at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

Ferris totaled 106 points in the five-team event. Saginaw Valley State claimed the team title with 29 points, Lansing Community College was second (50) and Northwood finished third (63).

Freshman Nate Penny was FSU's highest finisher as he placed 14th (27:30.70) among 47 runners on the 8K course. Freshman Nick Evans took 24th place (28:39.36), sophomore Barrington Dykes was 25th (28:44.16) and sophomore Darren Donakowski finished 31st (29:15.89).

Junior Justin Barts was 38th overall (30:00.18), sophomore Chase Gibson took 40th place (30:46.24) and sophomore Lee Schwass captured 42nd place (31:24.63) for the Bulldogs.

Ferris will take part in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational Saturday, Oct. 2, in Chicago, Ill. The event begins at 11 a.m. (EDT).

The Ferris State University men's cross country team took part in the Michigan State Spartan Open held Friday (Sept. 17) at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. No team scoring took place.

Freshman Jared Kelsh led the Bulldogs in the 8K event as he placed 56th overall (26:52).

Freshman Ray Rollet was 73rd (27:43), freshman Nate Penny captured 77th place (27:54) and freshman Nick Evans was 92nd (28:39).

Sophomore Darren Donakowski took 95th place (28:51), sophomore Barrington Dykes was 103rd overall (29:29) and sophomore Chase Gibson finished 112th (29:58). Sophomore Lee Schwass placed 116th (30:12) in the 128-runner field.

Ferris State will host the Bulldog Invitational Friday, Sept. 24, at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. The meet begins at 5:30 p.m. (EDT).

Sept. 3: Bulldogs Open Season At CMU Jeff Drenth Invitational

The Ferris State University men's cross country team opened its 2004 campaign Friday (Sept. 3) at the Jeff Drenth Invitational hosted by Central Michigan in University Park at Mount Pleasant, Mich.

Seven Bulldog athletes took part in the 5K non-scoring event, including freshman Jared Kelsh who placed 19th overall (16:13.7).

Freshman Nate Penny took 27th place (16:50.1), freshman Ray Rollet was 28th (16:52.6) and sophomore Lee Schwass placed 32nd (17:10.5). Sophomore Barrington Dykes recorded a 39th place finish (17:43.3), sophomore Darren Donakowski was 40th (17:47.0) and sophomore Chase Gibson took 43rd place (18:31.4).

The event included athletes from Central Michigan, Ferris State, Lake Superior State and Michigan State along with unattached athletes. Fourty-four runners competed in the season-opening event.

Ferris State will take part in the Michigan State Spartan Open Friday, Sept. 17, at East Lansing, Mich. The race is set to begin at 4 p.m. (EDT).
