Bulldog Senior Named A Finalist For Skills Competition

Ferris State University's Adam Miller (Livonia) has been selected as a finalist for the 2008 NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge.

The Frozen Four Skills Challenge will be held Friday, April 11, at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo., in conjunction with the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Frozen Four.

Miller, a senior center, is among 66 current ice hockey student-athletes to be tabbed a finalist by the selection committee after the original list featured 166 players. Fans can vote for their favorites among the 66 skaters, which are vying for the 16 roster spots on the each team. The selection committee will take all voting into consideration prior to making its announcement of the final rosters mid-February.

Participants in this years' challenge are presently in their senior year of eligibility. The skills challenge event will feature puck control relay, fastest skater, hardest shot, accuracy shooting, rapid fire shooting and penalty shot competition.

The Pontiac Frozen Four Skills Challenge is part of "Friday Night At The Frozen Four" activites which also inclues the presentation of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award and the Hockey Humanitarian Award. Tickets went on sale February 9 and can be purchased by calling the Pepsi Center box office or Ticketmaster at 303-830-8497. Fans can also buy tickets online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Miller currently ranks third among Ferris State's points leaders this season with 17 points on five goals and 12 assists in 28 contests. He has compiled a pair of multiple-point game performances this campaign with two points apiece against Wayne State (Oct. 19) and versus Northern Michigan (Jan. 18). In 135 career outings, Miller has 26 goals with 40 assists for 66 points. The 6-0, 178-pound forward has also tallied 10 power-play goals and three game-winning lamplighters during his FSU career.

The West Team will consist of school representatives from the Central Collegiate Hockey Asssociation (CCHA), the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), and College Hockey America (CHA) along with three NCAA Division III conferences -- the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA), and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA).

A season ago, former Bulldog defenseman Joe Van Culin won the fastest skater competition by representing Team West at the 2007 NCAA Pontiac Frozen Four Skills Challenge held at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.

Former FSU goaltender Tom Mueller competed in the inaugural Frozen Four Skills Challenge in 2006 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis..
