The 2005 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II Women's Golf Coach of the Year, Ferris State University's women's golf coach Brad Bedortha has brought national prominence to the Bulldog women's golf program in his six years at the helm.

Bedortha, who was also recognized as a co-recipient of the 2005 NGCA's Division II East Regional Coach of the Year Award, has guided Ferris State to consecutive (2004-05) top four NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament finishes. This spring (2005), he directed the Bulldogs to a fourth-place national championship tourney showing. The most significant accomplishment for the women's golf program came in the spring of 2004 when Ferris State tied for second-place at the NCAA-II National Tournament which represented the highest-placing ever for a Bulldog's women's athletics team.

In the spring of 2001, Bedortha led Ferris to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA-II National Championships and its first national championship tourney appearance since 1994. Recently, the Bulldogs have advanced to NCAA-II Regionals the last four seasons (2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04, and 2004-05) highlighted by a first-place performance at the 2004 NCAA-II East Regional which was held for the first time ever at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

A 1990 graduate of Ferris State's Professional Golf Management program, Bedortha returned to his alma mater in March 2000 after serving as the assistant golf professional at the Bend Golf and Country Club in Bend, Oregon. He was an all-conference golfer as an undergraduate at Ferris and helped the Bulldogs win league titles in 1988 and 1989. A three-year FSU letterwinner, Bedortha recorded a career 79.9 stroke average and posted a personal career-best 78.0 average for the 1988 season.

Individuals have also fared well under Bedortha's guidance as Ferris has had at least one golfer attain All-America recognition in each of the last five seasons. He has coached the program's only three-time All-American in Kathryn Bobbie, who's also a two-time (2000-01 and 2002-03) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and a three-time GLIAC Championship Tournament first-place individual medalist. In the 2003-04 season, Casey McKinnon was a honorable mention selection. Elena Robles and Becky Hoffman are the newest additions to the All-America list as Robles garnered second-team accolades and Hoffman was a honorable mention pick for the 2004-05 campaign.

Bedortha holds membership in the Professional Golfers Association of America and the National Golf Association. He's a two-time (2000-01 and 2002-03) GLIAC Coach of the Year honoree and received co-National Golf Coaches Assocation NCAA Division II East Region Coach of the Year accolades in the 2000-01 campaign. In the 2002-03 season, Bedortha was the recipient of the NGCA's East Region Coach of the Year Award.
