Ferris State Signs California Prep Standout Elena Robles

Four-Time League Most Valuable Player Is Newest Bulldog Recruit

The Ferris State University women’s golf program has signed Elena Robles (Torrance, Calif./Redondo Union) (pronounced row-bulls) to a national letter-of-intent to attend and play women’s golf at FSU, starting with the 2002 fall season. The announcement was made by the Bulldogs’ third-year head coach Brad Bedortha.

“We’re extremely excited to have a player of Elena’s caliber join our program,” said Bedortha. “She’s a true competitor who works extremely hard on her game. Her work ethic and determination will help push her teammates to play better.

“She should have an immediate and profound impact on our program and I believe she can become one of Ferris State’s best players ever,” added Bedortha.

Robles, who was both a four-time (1998-01) All-Ocean League First-Team and league Most Valuable Player, prepped at Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, Calif. A four-year team captain under head coach Jim St. Hilarie, Robles played an integral role in helping the Seahawks capture four (1998-01) straight league championship titles and the California Interscholastic Federation crown in 2000. Individually, Robles has registered a 76.1 stroke per round average and compiled a 50-0 dual-match record in her four-year prep career.

In the junior ranks, Robles recorded 16 tour victories while notching a personal career-high five tour wins in the 2000 campaign. She garnered four tour victories apiece in the 1998 and 2001 seasons, respectively.

Among the highlights of Robles’ playing career is traveling to London, England and Portugal. She also was afforded the opportunity of playing golf at San Lorenzo, which is the number two-rated golf course in Europe.

The daughter of Henry Robles and Brenda Underwood, Elena plans to major in professional golf management at Ferris State.
