Marsha Doak Signs With Ferris State
Bulldogs Land Another Talented Recruit For Next Season
The Ferris State University women’s golf program added its second recruit for the 2002-03 season as Marsha Doak (St. Joseph) has signed to continue her academic and athletic career at FSU as announced by Bulldogs’ third-year head coach Brad Bedortha.
“I’m glad to have the opportunity to coach Marsha here at Ferris State,” said Bedortha. “She comes from a great golf background and should be a great benefit to our program. I know Marsha will work hard at her golf game and she truly has the desire to work in improving all areas of her game.”
A three-time All-Big Eight Conference pick at St. Joseph (Mich.) High School, Doak has received team Most Valuable Player honors the last three seasons while playing at the number one position on the varsity squad for what should be the fourth straight year this spring. Doak, a two-time team captain under head coach Dave Durr, posted a personal career-best 47.0 stroke average as a junior in the 2001 season and had a low round total of 85 strokes. She placed second at the 2001 Big Eight Conference Tournament and finished sixth at regionals.
As a sophomore in 2000, Doak compiled a 48.4-stroke average with a low round of 84 en route to finishing among the top five at the conference tourney. In her freshman year, she recorded a 49.1 average and had a low round of 87 strokes. Doak tied for runner-up honors at the Big Eight Conference Tournament.
A native of St. Joseph, Mich., the 5-6 Doak broke both the school’s nine and 18-hole records during her freshman year before establishing newer marks the next two campaigns.
Besides golf, Doak has been involved in the school’s Art Club, Spanish Club and Young Life program.
The daughter of Steve and Becky Doak, Marsha plans to enroll in the Professional Golf Management program at Ferris State. Her older brother, Brian Doak, is the assistant professional at Brickyard Golf Course.
Doak joins Elena Robles (Torrance, Calif./Redondo Union) (pronounced row-bulls) as the 2002 Ferris State women’s golf signees to date.
