Bulldogs Begin Spring Season With A Solid Performance

Freshman Missy Ward finished in the top 25 at the Northern Illinois Springlake Invitational in Florida.
Junior Elena Robles and freshman Missy Ward both finished among the top 25 individuals and were key factors in leading the Ferris State women's golf team to a fifth-place showing at the 20-team Northern Illinois Springlake Invitational.

The Bulldogs fired an opening-round 325 score and then followed with a 303-stroke total in the final round of the tourney, which was conducted on the par 72, 5,850-yard Springlake Country Club in Sebring, Fla.

High Point (N.C.) finished first with a 616 score (311-305--606) while Creighton claimed second place after totaling a 623 (315-308--623). Mercer (315-310--625) and Florida Gulf Coast (321-304--625) each carded a 625 team score to tie for third place.

Robles shot a 156 (83-73--156) to tie for 19th place and Ward was one stroke back at 157 (81-76--157) to finish in a 22nd-place tie.

Sophomore Casey McKinnon posted a 159 score (84-75--159), which tied her for 30th place. A pair of freshmen, Becky Hoffman (80-80--160) and Yasuyo Kiyota (81-79--160) each tied for 37th place as the two both recorded 160-stroke totals.

Sophomore Heidi Aittama took part as a non-scoring individual, finishing tied with Hoffman and Kiyota following a score of 160 (79-81--160).
