FERRIS PLACES SECOND AT ILLINOIS ILLINI CLASSIC
The Ferris State University women's golf team wrapped up play second overall in the Illinois Illini Classic Saturday (April 9) at the Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana, Ill.
The Bulldogs fired a 308 in Saturday's final round after carding a 320 score in Friday's (April 8) opening round of play to finish with a 628 score on the par 72 course. Host Illinois won the event with a 616 score, Bradley (Ill.) took third (631) and Northern Illinois finished fourth (636) in the 11 team field.
Junior Elena Robles led FSU by finishing fourth overall with a two-day total of 154. She shot a 73 in the final round after opening play Friday with an 81 to finish 10 strokes over par.
Freshman Becky Hoffman tied for fifth place in the field of 60 golfers. Hoffman fired a 76 in Saturday's round following a 79 in the opening round of play. Her total score of 155 was 11 strokes over par for the tournament.
Sophomore Casey McKinnon posted a 157 (78-79--157, +13), sophomore Heidi Aittama carded a 162 (82-80--162, +18) and freshman Missy Ward shot a 163 (83-80--163, +19). McKinnon tied for 11th place, Aittama was tied for 18th place and Ward finished tied for 22nd place in the field.
Ferris State will take part in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships April 23-24 in Ashland, Ohio.
