FERRIS STATE PLACES SECOND AT BALL STATE CARDINAL CLASSIC

Robles' School-Record 69 Final-Round Score Helps Bulldogs To Runner-Up Finish

Elena Robles
Junior Elena Robles helped Ferris State to its second straight runner-up tournament finish by carding a school-record 69 in final-round competition at the Ball State Cardinal Classic.
Junior Elena Robles shot a school-record and tournament-best 69 score in Sunday's (Sept. 12) final round in leading Ferris State to a second-place finish at the Ball State Cardinal Classic with a two-round 597 score (+21).

The team stroke total was just two shy of matching the school record of 595 set at the Ferris State Bulldog Invitational earlier this fall (Sept. 4-5).

Ferris, which also turned in a second-place effort at the Grand Valley State Laker Classic (Sept. 6-7), followed Saturday's (Sept. 11) opening-round 298 score with a 299-stroke total on Sunday at the par 72, 6,164-yard The Players Golf Club course in Yorktown, Ind.

The Bulldogs improved their Cardinal Classic performance by 61 strokes this year after generating a 13th-place 658-team score (333-325--658) a season ago. Western Michigan captured tourney honors for the second consecutive year with a first-place 581 score (+5).

Robles, who bested the previous FSU single-round tying mark of 72 strokes set by freshman Yasuyo Kiyota at this year's Ferris State Bulldog Invite, and sophomore Casey McKinnon led the Bulldogs with fourth-place tying three-over par 147 scores. Robles (78-69--147) and McKinnon (72-75--147) both finished in a three-way deadlock for fourth.

Kiyota shot a 151 (75-76--151, +7) to tie for 10th place while frosh Becky Hoffman turned in a 15th-place tying 154 total (75-79--154, +10). Rounding out the Bulldog scoring was freshman Missy Ward, who tied for the 24th-place position with a 156 (76-80--156, +12).

Sophomore Heidi Aittama participated as a non-scoring individual and carded a 157 (76-81--157, +13) to tie for 28th place.
