BULLDOGS TAKE THIRD PLACE AT GVSU LAKER CLASSIC

Ferris Shows Improvement In Competitive Tourney

Senior Ellie Saladin returned to her former home golf course and earned top team honors for Ferris State with a sixth-place showing at the Grand Valley State Laker Classic.
The Ferris State women’s golf team shot a 336 score in Tuesday’s (Sept. 2)final round of competition to secure a third-place overall finish with a two-round 660 team score at the Grand Valley State Laker Classic in Allendale, Mich.

The Bulldogs, who compiled a 324 opening-round stroke total in Monday’s (Sept. 1) action at The Meadows Golf Course, finished one stroke in front of fourth-place Indianapolis in the 16-team field. Host Grand Valley State captured top tournament honors with a first-place 625 score while Nebraska-Omaha placed second as a result of garnering a 642-stroke total.

Senior Ellie Saladin, a GVSU transfer, paced the Bulldogs with a sixth-place 160 score (78-82—160) while sophomore Elena Robles carded a 163 (82-81—163) to tie two others for 12th place. Sophomore Casey McKinnon tied for 20th place with a 166 (77-89—166), junior Meredith Johnson tied for 45th with a 174 (90-84—174) and freshman Sam Wideman’s 177 score (88-89—177) tied her for 53rd place. Frosh Heidi Aittama rounded out the FSU scoring by tying for 70th place as a result of firing an 185 (87-98—185) on the par 73, 5,875-yard course.

Freshmen Kelley Wilkinson and Ashley Wolfe along with junior Rachael Peterson all competed as non-scoring individuals. Wilkinson attained a 41st-tying place finish with a 173 (87-86—173) while Peterson shot a 175 (84-91—175) to tie for 47th place. Wolfe’s 181 score (85-96—181) tied her for 61st place.

Ferris State will be participating in the Ball State Cardinal Classic this weekend (Sept. 6-7) at Yorktown, Ind.
