Casey McKinnon Earns Medalist Honors With Playoff Victory

Casey McKinnon was top individual medalist at the Beall Classic as Ferris State won the tournament title.
The Ferris State women's golf team won its first tournament of the 2003 fall season at the nine-team Findlay William "Bing" Beall Classic Monday (Sept. 29) in Arlington, Ohio.

The Bulldogs recorded a first-place and season-best 638 team score with rounds of 327 and 311, respectively on the par 72, 5,851-yard Sycamore Springs Golf Course.

Sophomore Casey McKinnon turned in the best performance of her career as she tied for first-place honors with a 154-stroke total (80-74-154, +10) before claiming the top individual medalist as a result of winning a playoff against Grand Valley State's Kristi Vienneau. Senior Ellie Saladin fired a 158 (80-78-158, +14) to place third while sophomore Elena Robles tied for fourth with by shooting a 163 score (87-76-163, +19).

Freshman Heidi Aittama continued her improved play with a 12th-place tying finish as she carded a 169 (80-89-169, +25). Fellow frosh Kelley Wilkinson's 172 score (87-85-172, +28) tied her for 21st place and junior Meredith Johnson fired a 173 (90-83-173, +29) to round out the Bulldog scoring with a 23rd-place tying finish.

Competing on an individual non-scoring basis was freshman Ashley Wolfe, who recorded a personal season-best 167-stroke total (83-84-167, +23) to place 10th in the field.
