WOMEN'S GOLF PLACES THIRD IN SECOND STRAIGHT TOURNEY

Ferris State Women's Golf The nationally fifth-ranked Ferris State women's golf team captured third-place honors for the second consecutive time in the fall 2008 season as the Bulldogs fired a two-round 618-stroke total (+42) at the Grand Valley State Laker Classic in Allendale, Mich.

Ferris State carded a 313 score in Monday's (Sept. 1) opening round and then followed with a 305 total in Tuesday's (Sept. 2) final round on par 72, 5,923-yard The Meadows Golf Course.

California (Pa.) won the tournament with a 606 team score (+30) to place two strokes ahead of runner-up Indianapolis (608, +32). Host Grand Valley State turned in a 622 (+46) to garner fourth place while Upper Iowa earned a fifth-place showing by posting a 636 score (+60) among the 14-tourney participants.

Senior Alison Meyer (Duluth, Minn./Central) led the Bulldogs by finishing in a four-way tie for sixth place as a result of shooting an eight-over par 152 (78-74=152). Senior Meghan Hunter (Dexter) registered a 154 (76-78=154, +10) to tie for 11th place.

Gaining a share of 18th place was sophomore Jacqueline Benscoter (Metamorra/Lapeer West, who carded a 157 score (81-76=157, +13). Freshman Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) also produced a 157-stroke total (80-77=157).

Senior Raquel Hansen (West Olive/Grand Haven) rounded out the scoring for Ferris State with a 29th-place tying 162 score (79-83=162, +18).

Freshman Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley) participated in a non-scoring capacity and finished with a 160 (77-83=160, +16) to tie for 25th place honors.
