FERRIS STATE TAKES THIRD IN SEASON-OPENING TOURNEY

Ferris State Women's Golf The Ferris State women's team placed third at the 2008 Ferris State Invitational with a two-round 615 team score following Sunday's (Aug. 30) final round at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

Grand Valley State captured top team honors with a 594 score (298-296=594) followed by California, Pa., which earned runner up honors by firing a 609 (305-304). Ferris State turned in a third-place showing as a result of a 615-stroke total (319-296=615). The tied a FSU school record for the lowest round which was set six other times.

Senior Raquel Hansen (West Olive/Grand Haven) shot a 147 (77-70=147) to tie for second place as Grand Valley State's Ashley Smith was the individual medalist with a first-place 144 (70-74=144) score.

Senior Alison Meyer (Duluth, Minn./Central) carded a fourth-place tying 149 (79-70=149) while senior Meghan Hunter's (Dexter)156 score (81-75=156) was good for a 16th-place tie.

Sophomore Jacqueline Benscoter (Metamorra/Lapeer West), who competed as a non-scoring individual, gained a share of 19th place by posting a 157 score (80-77=157).

Raquel Hansen and Alison Meyer were named to the Ferris State Invitational All-Tournament Team.
