BULLDOGS EARN RUNNER-UP HONORS AT FINDLAY ALLTEL INVITATIONAL

Ferris State Men's Golf The Ferris State University men's golf team carded a team score of 297 in Sunday's (April 10) final round of play at the Findlay Alltel Invitational to earn runner-up honors in the event, which was held at the Sycamore Springs and Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio.

FSU, which shot a 298 in Saturday's (April 9) opening 18 holes of action, concluded the tournament seven strokes behind Grand Valley State. The Lakers won the event with a two-day total of 588 after shooting a 290 in the final round.

Wayne State placed third (596), host Findlay took fourth place (597) and Northwood finished fifth (600) in the field of 16 teams on the par 72 course.

Grand Valley's Josh Orler won the event in a playoff with Mercyhurst's Craig Bishop. Orler fired a 142 to finish two strokes under par.

The Bulldogs were led by sophomore Alex Balog, who finished in a four-way tie for fifth place. Balog shot a 71 on Sunday following his opening round score of 75 for a total of 146 (+2).

Sophomore Jeff Carlson finished tied for 10th place (71-77--148, +4), sophomore Kyle Mason placed tied for 22nd (76-76--152, +8), freshman Derek Shelburne was tied for 36th place (81-73--154, +10) and junior Todd Griffin ended up tied for 62nd place (76-84--160, +16) in the field of 94 golfers.

Bulldog junior Derek Radley competed as an individual and placed tied for 10th (73-75--148, +4) while senior Aaron Brown withdrew from Sunday's competition after carding a 74 as an individual competitor in the opening round.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the NCAA-II Great Lakes Region Tournament III Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17, in Edinburgh, Ind.
