MEN'S GOLF WINS SECOND TOURNAMENT OF THE SEASON
Balog's First-Place Showing Leads Ferris To Findlay Oiler Invitational Title

Freshman Alex Balog claimed top individual medalist honors while leading the Ferris State men's golf team to its second team tourney title of the 2003-04 season as the Bulldogs won the Findlay Oiler Invitational with a two-round five-over par 581 score.
Ferris posted an opening-round 295 score in Friday's action and then followed with a 286-stroke total in Saturday's final-round competition to claim top honors with a team season-leading 581 two-round total among the 14-team field. Wayne State took second place with a 604 team score (+28) while Grand Valley State registered a 611 score (+35) to place third. Host Findlay finished 31 strokes behind Ferris State to garner fourth place as a result of shooting a 612-stroke total.
The opening round was played on the par 72, 6,612-yard Sycamore Springs Golf Course in Arlington, Ohio while the final round was conducted on the par 72, 7,155-yard Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio.
Balog carded a career-best 141 (71-70--141) to achieve first-place plaudits while senior Chris Griffin and freshman Kyle Mason each totaled 147 scores to finish tied for second place. Griffin (77-70--147) and Mason (74-73--147) tied with frosh Jeff Carlson, who also fired a 147 (73-74--147) but competed as a non-scoring individual.
Senior Jon Pazdera's 150 score (73-77--150) tied him for 10th place while senior Everett Leonard rounded out the scoring for Ferris with a 20th-place 152-stroke total (79-73--152).
Two FSU golfers also participated on an individual basis. Senior Craig Piscopink shot a sixth-place 148 (72-76--148) while senior Pat Simmer totaled a 29th-place tying 155 score (79-76--155).
Ferris State's other first-place showing occurred at the Bay Valley Intercollegiate Tournament last fall (Sept. 26-27) in Bay City, Mich. as the Bulldogs compiled a 36-hole 596 team score (292-304--596).
