FERRIS CLAIMS TOP HONORS AT BAY VALLEY TOURNAMENT
Senior Pat Simmer Takes Home Individual Medalist Honors

With a solid showing in both rounds, the Ferris State men's golf team claimed its first tournament title of the 2003-04 season as the Bulldogs captured first-place honors at the Bay Valley Intercollegiate Tournament in Bay City, Mich.
The annual tourney, which was hosted by Saginaw Valley State, was conducted at the par 72, 6,666-yard Bay Valley Resort in Friday's competion while Saturday's play took place at the Sawmill Golf Club, a par 72, 6,627-yard course.
Ferris recorded a two-round 596 team score (+20) as the Bulldogs started out the tourney Friday (Sept. 26) with a first-round 292 total and proceeded to shoot a 304 in Saturday's final-round play. Northwood posted a 601-stroke total (+25) to place second while Mercyhurst finished third with a 610 (+34) score. Findlay and Saginaw Valley State both carded a 616 to tie for fourth-place honors.
Senior Pat Simmer turned in his best performance of the fall by capturing top individual honors with an even-par 144 score (71-73-144, E). Senior Everett Leonard tallied a 147 (72-75-147, +3) to tie for fourth place while freshman Kyle Mason shot an 11th-place tying 152 total (73-79-152, +8).
Sophomore Aaron Brown and frosh Jeff Carlson both finished in a four-way tie for 26th place as each notched 156 scores (+12). Brown shot a 79-77-156 while Carlson netted a 76-80-156.
Senior Craig Piscopink and freshman Alex Balog, both competed as non-scoring individuals. Piscopink garnered a 153 (75-78-153, +9) in his first collegiate match to tie for 18th overall while Balog tied for 23rd place with a 155 score (77-78-155, +11).
A season ago, FSU placed fifth at the Bay Valley Intercollegiate Tourney with a two-round 602 score (308-294-602, +26).
