FERRIS STATE WINS FINDLAY OILER INVITATIONAL

Bulldogs' Pat Simmer Leads The Way With Second-Place Finish

The Ferris State men's golf team fired a final round of 298 Sunday to capture first-place honors at the FIndlay Oiler Invitational, which was held at the Par 72, 6,612-yard Sycamore Springs Golf Course in Arlington, Ohio.

Ferris' two-round total of 605 (307-298--605, +29) was its fourth lowest stroke total for the 2002-03 season as the Bulldogs captured their third team tourney title this campaign.

Junior Pat Simmer led the Bulldogs with a second-place 147 score (75-72--147, +3) as Findlay's Kyle Weisenburger was the top individual medalist, carding a 145 score (73-72--145, +1).

Seniors Mitch Flemming (76-76--152, +8) and Tyler Averdick (81-71--152, +8) both finished in a four-way tie for eighth place. Senior Chris Griffin (77-79--156, +12) tied for 22nd while junior Aaron Brown (79-81--160, +16) rounded out the scoring by tying for 34th place.

Junior Jason Brustad, competing as an individual, was fifth overall with a 150-stroke total (75-75--150, +6). Fellow junior Jon Pazdera fired a two-round 154 (79-75--154, +10) to tie with three others for the 15th-place spot.

Ferris is idle this upcoming weekend before getting back in action April 20-21 at the NCAA Division II District IV Tournament III in Auburn, Ind.
