FERRIS STATE GOLFER NAMED TO 2002-03 ALL-GLIAC TEAM
Mitch Flemming Earns First-Team Kudos For Third Straight Year*2002-03 GLIAC All-Conference Release* PDF
Senior Mitch Flemming (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) of the Ferris State University men's golf team holds the distinction of being the lone FSU representative named to the 2002-03 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf Team as as announced Monday (May 19) by the conference office.
The FSU team captain was among six individuals named to the conference's first team. With the first-team honor, Flemming became a three-time (2000-03) All-GLIAC First-Team pick. Kyle Weisenburger of Findlay was voted the GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Year while Gannon's Dave Patronik received Freshman of the Year honors. Head coach Dave Turner of Northwood was chosen the league Coach of the Year. The All-GLIAC squads, which were comprised of a first and second team, were selected based upon a player's stroke average in his 10 best conference play rounds, including the GLIAC Championship Tournament's three rounds. Both a NCAA Division II PING All-America Third Team and Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar selection in 2001-02, Flemming presently leads the Bulldogs with a 75.4 stroke average in 24 total rounds this season. He has registered seven top 10 individual finishes this campaign, including a pair of top five efforts – second-place tie at the Ferris State Fall Invitational (Sept. 13-14) and a third-place tie at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships (Oct. 5-6). He has paced the Bulldogs in four tournaments this season – Ferris State Fall Invitational, GLIAC Championships, NCAA-II National Preview (Oct. 14-15) and NCAA-II Great Lakes Region Qualifier Tournament (April 20-21).
Flemming led Ferris State a season ago with a career-best 74.1 stroke average in 26 rounds. For his career, the three-time (1999-02) GLIAC All-Academic honoree has recorded a 75.1 career average in 88 rounds. He has won or shared top individual medalist honors at a tournament six times in his career and led the Bulldogs with an eighth-place 290 score at the 2000 NCAA-II National Championships in Turlock, Calif.
Ferris State will be making its 11th NCAA-II National Championship appearance at the 2003 NCAA-II Championships, which will be held May 20-23 at the Sunriver Resort’s Crosswater Golf Club in Sunriver, Ore.
