"I'm honored to receive this recognition," said Gorby. "There are several SID's in the CCHA who are truly worthy of this award and to be included among this group is special. Besides those in the CCHA office, I want to express my sincere thanks to my statistics crew, the fine media members who cover the league, and the Bulldog hockey coaching staff and student-athletes for their outstanding cooperation in fulfilling the numerous requests I received throughout this season."

Gorby, who's midst his 12th year as the athletics communications director at FSU and his 15th year overall at the university, plays an integral role in publicizing the 15-sport intercollegiate athletics program at Ferris State. Along with maintaining and developing the athletics department's website, Gorby oversees most of the athletic department's publications. A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Gorby is a member of both the Ferris State Bulldog Athletics Hall of Fame Selection Committee and the FSU Bulldog Athletics Hall of Fame Display Committee. He also assists in several other departmental special committees/events.

Prior to Ferris State, Gorby served five years (1989-94) as the assistant SID at Michigan Tech University after completing a two-year stint (1987-89) as a graduate assistant at NCAA Division I Western Kentucky University. Before WKU, he worked as a student assistant at NCAA-I Central Michigan University (1986-87) and was a sports writer for the college newspaper (CMU Life) for two years.

Gorby, a Sand Lake, Mich. native, is a 1988 graduate of Central Michigan and holds a bachelor's degree in journalism with a public relations emphasis.
