"Bulldog Athletics Blog" To Offer View Inside Ferris State Athletics

Big Rapids - - Ferris State University fans across the world will have an opportunity to keep up with all the action in Bulldog Athletics as local journalist Sandy Gholston will cover selected teams throughout the year for his new "Bulldog Athletics Blog", which debuts today (Aug. 27) on the official FSU Athletics Website (www.ferris.edu/sports).

Sandy Gholston An award-winning reporter and a current marketing specialist within FSU's University Advancement and Marketing Division, Gholston will keep fans up-to-date throughout the year with periodic blogs, opinions, features and recaps of various teams, games and events. He'll also correspond with photos from the action as the Bulldogs compete over the course of the season. Gholston will offer an insider's view and provide the content for the site, which will be managed and updated by the FSU Athletics Communications Office.

Gholston previously served as a sports reporter and assistant sports editor for the Big Rapids Pioneer prior to his appointment at FSU last fall. A native of Detroit, Mich., Gholston has covered Ferris State athletics for over 12 years. He started covering Bulldog athletic events as an undergraduate student at FSU in 1996, working as a sports reporter for the campus' student newspaper, The Torch.

Gholston began his career in May 1997 with The Pioneer. In that time, he won several awards for his coverage of FSU Athletics including a first-place Associated Press Award for "Sustained Coverage of a Single Sports Event" in his reporting on the tragic death of a Ferris State Football student-athlete in the fall of 2002. In addition, he also received the 2003 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Media Service Award and the 2002 United States Tennis Association’s Fred Burns Journalism Award for his coverage of Ferris State Athletics along with being a finalist for the 2004-05 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Grant Burger Media Award after being chosen as the national recipient in the print journalism category.

Gholston has also been active in the community, serving as co-head coach of the Reed City (Mich.) eighth grade boys' basketball team along with officiating at Ferris State summer basketball camps.
