FSU Honors Local Supporting Businesses & Individuals During Event

The Ferris State University Athletics Department held its 2009 "Thank You" Scramble in recognition of local supporting businesses on Wednesday (May 27) afternoon at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

More than 50 golfers took part in the event under sometimes rainy conditions with a variety of great individual and team prizes up for grabs including Bulldog shirts, hats, sweatshirts, golf balls and more.

The event was held to honor and recognize those contributors who help support FSU Athletics' marketing efforts throughout the year.

The field included 13 teams made up of local supporting businesses and most teams were paired with a member of the FSU coaching staff, including head coaches such as Bob Daniels (hockey), Bill Sall (men's basketball), Mike Mignano (men's & women's golf) and Alex Palladino (men's & women's tennis). A number of assistant coaches and other department members also played along with a few student-athletes and FSU Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic. The prizes for the outing were donated by several different Bulldog Athletics programs and the outing was organized by Associate Athletics Director Jon Coles, who coordinates the department's marketing efforts.

The winning team, which carded a seven-under par 64 at Katke, came from Bill Scheible State Farm Insurance and included Bill Scheible, Lynne Scheible, Jerome Schwind of Isabella Bank & Trust along with FSU women's golf team member Breezy Bernth.

Flag prize winners included Tan Lines' Tyler Sparks (longest men's drive), Doug Post (men's closest to pin) and FSU development officer Stacey Issette, who claimed both the women's longest drive and closest to pin awards.

In addition to the winning team, other local entries included supporters from the Pioneer Group, Holiday Inn, Ken's Sports, FSU Copy Center, Edward D. Jones, Big Rapids Foot & Ankle, General Mills, LRG Liscensing Group, Tan Lines, Phillips Auto, Papa John's, Big Rapids Public Schools, Snyder's Market and the local National Guard/ROTC. Many other various businesses supporting FSU Athletics were also invited to attend this year's outing.
