While the 2008 Ferris State University women's golf and softball teams wrapped up their respective "storybook" seasons with top five-place performances at the 2008 NCAA Division II National Championships Festival last week (May 13-17) in Houston, Texas, the Bulldogs also received national acclaim as entertainers.
Senior Missy Ward (Fenton/Linden) of the women's golf team was tops in the "Best Vocalist" category for her version of Ace of Base's "I Saw The Sign" which she sang as part of the karaoke competition during Saturday (May 17) evening's closing ceremonies. Members of the Ferris State softball team won in the "Best Stage Performance" category for Gloria Gaynor's song "I Will Survive."
A group of parents from the Bulldog softball team were selected as the "Most Supportive Group" for their rendition of the Johnny Cash classic "Ring of Fire."
Both Ferris State teams also spent time participating in the NCAA's partnership Habitat for Humanity where student-athletes from the participating teams along with local volunteers helped build a record 10 homes for the Houston metropolitan area during the 2008 NCAA-II Spring Championships Festival.
