CO-WINNERS SELECTED FOR ATHLETICS' BOUYER LEADERSHIP AWARD

Godlewski and Shanahan Share Prestigious Honor

Godlewski was a co-honoree of the award in 2004-05 and holds the distinction of being the only FSU student-athlete to receive the honor more than once. The selection of Godlewski and Shanahan represents the third consecutive year in which the award has featured co-recipients.

The award is named in memory of Ferris State’s first All-America football student-athlete Willie Bouyer, who was tragically killed in his hometown of Detroit in 1977. Candidates for the award are judged on their strong inspirational leadership and dedication to fellow Ferris State student-athletes. The nominees also should be involved outside of athletics in other college and community activities along with participating on a varsity athletics team for at least two years. The Bouyer Leadership Award was reinstated in 2002-03 following a seven-year absence.

Godlewski attained Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region Second-Team honors for the third straight year and was also a honorable mention American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Great Lakes Region selection for the 2005 season. The 2005 team's Most Valuable Player, Godlewski concluded her collegiate career with 1,419 digs to rank second among the program's all-time leaders. She finished only 50 digs shy of tying Janna Biggs' (1985-88) school-record 1,469 digs total. The 5-7 libero received All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Second-Team recognition for the second straight year in 2005 after becoming the first libero position player in league history to receive either first or second-team all-league laurels in 2004. The three-time (2003-05) GLIAC All-Academic Team pick registered a team and personal career-high 449 digs for the 2005 campaign while compiling 23 double-digit dig performances. She also was a three-time (2002-04) recipient of the squad's Bulldog Award, which is given annually to a volleyball player for displaying the heart and desire of a Bulldog.

A FSU Dean's Academic Award honoree, Godlewski served one year as the president of Ferris' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in addition to being a four-year member. Godlewski also is a former chairperson of the Student-Athlete Educational Programming Committee. She also has served as a Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Public Relations Director, a speaker assistant for the FSU Speaker Series, volunteer for the Ferris Job Fair, a Ferris Walk for Warmth participant along with holding membership in the Student Alumni Gold Club. Godlewski’s leadership played an key part in the Bulldogs making their 13th overall NCAA Division II Tournament appearance this past fall. Ferris State finished the 2005 season at 22-10 overall and produced the program's eighth consecutive winning campaign in the process.

Shanahan wrapped up his college career in 2005-06 by ranking second among the squad's rebounding (6.7 rpg) and blocked shots (22) leaders. He averaged a career season-best 7.6 points (221 total points) while connecting on 53.9% (90-167) of his field goal attempts to go along with his career-high rebounding average for the 2005-06 campaign. The 6-6, 215-pound forward played in the Bulldogs' initial 29 contests this past season before suffering a season-ending injury which forced him to miss the final two outings. The three-time (2003-06) GLIAC All-Academic Team member generated nine double-figure scoring efforts and three double-double (points and rebounds) performances in his final season. Shanahan, who received the team's Sixth Player Award this campaign, accumulated 622 career points in 113 games. He currently ranks 15th among the program's all-time leaders in rebounding (528), seventh in blocked shots (48), and ninth in steals (116). Shanahan placed among the GLIAC's overall leaders in six statistical categories this season, including seventh in rebounding. He was honored in 2002-03 as the squad's Most Improved Player.

Shanahan helped Ferris State compile an 18-13 overall record for the 2005-06 season as the Bulldogs made their second consecutive NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament appearance. Ferris posted a second-place 13-5 regular-season mark in the GLIAC's North Division after claiming back-to-back titles in the 2003-04 and 2004-05 campaigns.
