Kicker Boots Game-Winning Field Goal As Ferris Wins Its Second Straight Decision

Josh Eichler, who accounted for the game-winning points in Ferris State's win at Findlay, was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week.

Junior placekicker Josh Eichler (Tomball, Texas/Grand Rapids, Mich. C.C.) of the Ferris State University football team was selected the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Special Teams Player of the Week (Oct. 3) after kicking a game-winning 18-yard field goal as time expired to give the Bulldogs a dramatic 34-31 conference triumph at Findlay last Saturday (Oct. 1) night.

Eichler also made good on a season-best long 30-yard field goal in the second quarter while converting all four of his extra-point kick attempts in the contest.

Eichler is four-of-six in field goals this season for a 66.7% success rate. The 5-10, 175-pound kicker also ranks second in team scoring with 20 points, which includes eight for nine in extra-point kicks.

He joins sophomore quarterback C.J. Van Wieren as Bulldogs to garner conference player of the week kudos this season. Van Wieren was honored as the GLIAC's Offensive Player of the Week a week ago (Sept. 26).

The Bulldogs, presently 2-4 both overall and in the GLIAC, will take their two-game winning streak back on the road this Saturday (Oct. 8) facing the nationally-ranked North Dakota Fighting Sioux in a non-conference encounter at UND's Alerus Center in Grand Forks, N.D. Opening kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (EDT).
