ANNUAL COMMUNITY PIGSKIN PREVIEW TO BE HELD AUGUST 24

Both the 2003 Ferris State University and Big Rapids High School football programs will be recognized at the ninth annual Community Pigskin Preview, which will be held Sunday, August 24, at FSU’s Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids. The event will begin around 7:30 p.m. (EDT) following the Bulldog football team's scrimmage at 5 p.m. (EDT).

The event, which is open to the public free of charge and sponsored by the Ferris State Gridiron Club, will feature introductions of the respective 2003 Ferris State and Big Rapids High School players, coaching staffs and cheerleaders. One of this year's highlights will be the unveiling of FSU's new home and road football jerseys along with a new helmet design, which was purchased through a football student-athlete fundraising campaign in the offseason.

Complimentary hot dogs and refreshments will be served prior to the respective team introductions. Numerous raffle prizes will be given away throughout the event. Both Ferris State Athletics Department staff and FSU Gridiron Club members will be on hand to distribute schedule cards, posters and brochures.

Ferris State embarks on its 95th season of varsity competition this fall as the Bulldogs begin the 2003 campaign on the road Saturday, Sept. 6, versus the Hillsdale College Chargers in a 7 p.m. (EDT) non-conference contest at HC's Frank "Muddy" Waters Stadium in Hillsdale, Mich. FSU opens up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action Saturday, Sept. 13, against archrival and 2002 NCAA Division II National Champion Grand Valley State University Lakers. Opening kickoff is 7 p.m. (EDT) at GVSU's Arend D. Lubbers Stadium in Allendale, Mich.

The 2003 home opener for Ferris is set for Saturday, Sept. 20, as the Northern Michigan University Wildcats visit Top Taggart Field in GLIAC play. A 7 p.m. (EDT) start time is scheduled for FSU's fourth annual Hall of Fame game with the a post-game fireworks display to be held immediately following the game’s conclusion.

The Big Rapids High School Varsity and Junior Varsity football teams kickoff their 2003 nine-game regular season schedule versus the Ludington Orioles. The Cardinals’ Junior Varsity squad travels to Ludington Wednesday, Aug. 27, in a 7 p.m. (EDT) contest while the varsity squad hosts Ludington Thursday, Aug. 28, at 7:30 p.m. (EDT). All of the Cardinals' Junior Varsity and Varsity football games will take place at Top Taggart Field on the Ferris State University campus.
