BLOG 7: Bulldog women’s golf team also eighth in the nation
By Sandy Gholston
BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris softball team is not the only Bulldog program ranked eighth in the nation in Division II.
The Ferris women’s golf team is holding steady at eighth in the nation in the most recent unveiling of the Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association Women's Golf Coaches’ Poll. The rankings were released last week (April 8). Second-year head coach Mike Mignano has his Bulldogs looking steady as they seek to contend for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. But, competing for the GLIAC title will be no easy task as Ferris must contend with Grand Valley State, which is rated fifth in the nation in Division II.
This past weekend, the Bulldogs placed second (behind GVSU by 13 strokes) out of seven teams at the Northwood Invitational. Alison Meyer led the Bulldogs as she finished in second place with a score of 151 through two rounds while Raquel Hansen was tied for sixth at 154 and Blaize Baumgartner was tied for ninth at 160 for the top-10 finishers representing Ferris.
The Bulldogs have one more regular-season event to tune up prior to the start of the GLIAC Championships (April 25-26) in Allendale (the Lakers’ home turf). The Bulldogs will have to be on top of their game and put it all together to find a way to trip up the mighty Lakers on their home course. Prior to that, however, Ferris is in Ohio (April 17-18) competing in the Ashland Invitational.
