BIG RAPIDS – If Ferris State’s first scrimmage is any indication, look for the women’s basketball team to be doing a whole lot of running this season.
The Bulldogs were in run-and-gun mode as the guards pushed the basketball up the court early and often during an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday.
Ferris’ lineup features a lot of depth at the guard positions as the Bulldogs put a lot of that talent to positive use as head coach Tracey Dorow divided her team into two squads for the scrimmage. Dorow coached one team and her assistant, Crystal Harris, coached the other team as the program offered a sneak peak of what it will have to offer this season.
Senior guard Teghan Thelen, gearing up to step into the role as likely the team’s go-to player this season, was solid as usual as she attacked the basket a little more to complement her long-range shooting ability. Tiara Adams continues to make strides both offensively and defensively for Ferris with her energy and athleticism. Newcomer Chelsea (Ciba) Simonetti brings a toughness, aggressiveness and hard-nosed defensive mentality to the backcourt as she pressured the basketball and lived up to her reputation as a defensive ball thief as she earned a number of steals.
