BIG RAPIDS – If Ferris wants to get back into the top eight of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball standings, it has a lot of work to do.
Currently, the Bulldogs are 3-9 in the league (which puts them just two games out of third place in the North Division). Just above Ferris, Northern Michigan and Lake Superior State are tied at 5-7 in the league entering the week. But, the Bulldogs also are just two games ahead of Saginaw Valley State, which is 1-11 in the North Division.
Tech (which is 12-0) and Grand Valley (which is on an 11-game league winning streak since losing to the Bulldogs in their GLIAC opener way back on Dec. 1) are running away with things in the North. Ferris, however, still has an opportunity to catch Lake Superior and Northern, but it will need to play high-quality basketball in the weeks to come to make that happen.
In the South Division, Hillsdale (10-2) is up two games on second-place Northwood (8-4). The Timberwolves are followed by Ashland (6-6), Findlay (5-7), Wayne State (3-9) and Tiffin (3-9). Much like the men’s race, there are a lot of spots still up for grabs as teams work hard to try and finish in the top eight to get into the league playoffs.
