BIG RAPIDS – Having now lost six of its last seven games, the Ferris State University women’s basketball team will go into the holiday break and come out of it hungry for answers.

Ferris dropped a pair of home Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games over the weekend to Hillsdale, 76-61 on Saturday, and then to Findlay, 81-74 on Sunday. It’s tough enough to play games on back to back days. It’s even tougher when you’re playing two league games on consecutive days and you’re playing two good teams (one great team, in Hillsdale, and one fast-rising team, in Findlay). Not only has Ferris dropped six of its last seven games, the team has lost four straight since a 74-64 win in Allendale at rival Grand Valley State (Dec. 1).

The Bulldogs have to rediscover the defensive intensity it played with against the Lakers, a team Ferris held to just 64 points. Since then, the Bulldogs have given up 92, 85, 76 and 81 points to their opponents. Teams are averaging 77.5 points against Ferris’ defense so far on this young season.

Against the Lakers, Ferris contested shots, rebounded well and played with an intensity it needs to bring back. The Bulldogs’ post players did a good job of helping and cutting off the lane to assist the guards and small forwards in containing opposing backcourts.
