BIG RAPIDS – Competing against the nation’s best, during the 2009 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, two Ferris student-athletes returned to Michigan with All-American honors (March 14).

On the women’s side, Ferris senior distance runner Mikinzie Stuart claimed seventh to earn All-American honors with a time of 4:58.59 in the mile run (the top eight finishers are named All-Americans). For the men, senior Matt Jozwiak also earned All-America honors as he claimed seventh in the 800-meter run as he clocked a time of 1:54.75.

Stuart and Jozwiak were recognized as All-Americans on the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-America Team.

It was a great showing by the two All-Americans and it is also noteworthy to salute Tina Muir who earned a trip to nationals and just missed out on earning All-America honors for indoor track and field (as she did during the fall in cross country as she finished 12th at the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships in Slipper Rock, Pa.). Look for Muir to be a factor on the national scene again … perhaps as soon as the upcoming outdoor season. Muir finished 12th in the 5,000 meters in 17:28.90. She will be back.

All in all, a solid indoor track and field season for Ferris with two student-athletes earning All-American honors.
