BIG RAPIDS – Ferris will be in for quite a challenge beginning regional softball tournament play against Northern Kentucky Friday morning.

While the Norse got off to a bit of slow start, they are playing strong softball at the right time of the season. NKU is coming off a successful run in winning the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament – including back-to-back victories of 1-0, on May 2, and 10-2, on May 3, over Lewis, to win the league championship in East Peoria, Ill.

The Bulldogs (ranked No. 21 in the nation) and Norse have a little history this season having played two games during the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. in March. Ferris won the first game 5-2 (March 7), but fell in the rematch by a 5-0 count on March 12.

In this contest, however, the stakes will be a lot higher for Ferris and Northern Kentucky as FSU head coach Keri Becker gets to take on NKU coach Kathy Stewart in a battle of two friends. Don’t let the friendship fool you. This is a huge game for the coaches who are as intense as it gets in competition.
