BIG RAPIDS – Sophomore Becci Houdek has made the transition from college soccer back to college basketball.
But, during her time in soccer, the 5-foot-9 Houdek made quite an impression on her teammates, coaches and opponents during the fall. She finished with a record of 9-8-1 in goal with her 1.61 goals against average and a .842 saves percentage. On the basis of a strong individual season in front of the net, Houdek was named the Bulldogs’ Most Valuable Player at the program’s post-season banquet on Sunday at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center.
Tammy Unsworth, a senior forward, was named the team’s Attacking Player of the Year, after she finished with 18 points on seven goals with four assists. Senior defender Jackie Back collected the Defensive Player of the Year Award. Freshman defender Mekyla Spraggins earned the Most Improved Player Award and junior goalkeeper Kari Alsager was presented the Don Edwards Scholarship Award (most dedication on and off the field while earning the team’s highest grade point average).
Ferris finished 9-9-1 this season, overall, and earned a record of 8-7-1 in the GLIAC for a fourth-place finish for third-year head coach Neathan Gibson.
