BIG RAPIDS – With five of their next six soccer matches at home, this weekend is the start of a critical stretch of contests for Ferris State University’s women’s soccer team.
Currently, Ferris is 3-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings. This weekend the Bulldogs host Saginaw Valley Friday (Oct. 3) at 4 p.m. and then Northwood on Sunday (Oct. 5) at 12 p.m. The Bulldogs then go on the road to face Ashland (Oct. 10) before they return home for matches against Northern Michigan (Oct. 12), Tiffin (Oct. 17) and Findlay (Oct. 19).
In many ways, this could be a make-or-break stretch for head coach Neathan Gibson’s soccer team to protect its home turf and climb the ladder in the league standings.
Through eight matches this season the team’s leading scorers are Megan McCabe and Bri Borgman with four points each – both off a pair of goals. Tammy Unsworth has three points and then with two apiece are Maegan Smith, Ellen Phillips, Julia Zilan and Mekyla Spraggins.
