BLOG 10: Game was a little tight, but Gibson salutes defense

By Sandy Gholston

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris women’s soccer coach Neathan Gibson had to sweat a little harder as his team held on to score a 2-1 win Friday afternoon at home over Ashland.

But, it was his team’s defensive effort in the closing minutes that allowed him to breathe a sigh of relief when everything was said, done and written.

Becci Houdek, the 5-foot-9 starting point guard on the women’s basketball team, has made a nice transition to college soccer. Houdek, with a strong high-school history of soccer, finished with 15 saves against one goal allowed in the win over the Eagles.

“Becci did a wonderful job in goal for us during this game and we’re definitely happy to see the way she has progressed and what she has brought to our team,” Gibson said. “Our defense did well in front of her and did a nice job of opening some things up for us offensively as well.”
