BLOG 47: Congratulations to Keenan and Gay for all-league honors

By Sandy Gholston

Men's Basketball BIG RAPIDS – It was no big surprise Ferris had a couple of guys recognized as all-league competitors this season in sophomore center Justin Keenan and guard Darien Gay, also a sophomore.

Keenan, the leading scorer in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, earned All-GLIAC First Team honors according to voting conducted among coaches for the 2008-09 all-league teams. The 6-foot-6 Keenan, who prepped at Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids, was the most dominant back-to-the-basket post player in the GLIAC this season. Keenan averaged 20.2 points and 7.3 rebounds to lead Ferris.

Gay, who had a coming-out party as a player this season, was named to the All-GLIAC North Division Second Team. The former Detroit Henry Ford High School prep standout emerged with his consistent ability to knock down the 3-point shot while also doing his part to get the ball into the hands of scorers (when he was not one of those scorers). He also was a great stabilizer to help ease the transition of true freshman point guard Dontae Molden. Gay was the third on the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game while shooting 47 percent from the 3-point line.

Keenan and Gay are very deserving of these honors for a Ferris team that finished 14-14 overall an 12-10 in the GLIAC.
