BLOG 20: Point guard play continues to be strong for the Bulldogs

By Sandy Gholston

FSU Basketball ASHLAND, Ohio – Ferris State University benefited from some quality point guard play during its 96-91 victory over Ashland University Thursday at Kates Gymnasium.

Sophomore Darien Gay and freshman Dontae Molden – the team’s point guards – have been solid performers for the Bulldogs this season. Thursday, however, Gay proved spectacular with 22 points as he drained five shots from outside of the 3-point arc. Molden did not put up the scoring numbers, but was effective running the show as he dished nine of the 25 assists Ferris had as a team.

Head coach Bill Sall knew his team would be young at the point guard position with a sophomore and a freshman handling the duties. But, the off-season development of Gay and the emergence of Molden have given the Bulldogs plenty to feel good about this season, the rest of the season and into the future.

One of the things that have been most impressive about these two point guards has been their ability to handle the pressure of playing on the road in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference – even against tough competition. As those two point guards continue to grow and mature, the Bulldogs will only become better at the offensive end.
