BIG RAPIDS – Ferris freshman goaltender Taylor Nelson’s solid play this season caught the attention of people around the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
Nelson, a native of Regina, Saskatchewan, received CCHA All-Rookie Team honorable mention honors for his work between the pipes. Nelson ended his freshman season with a 5-8-4 record, a 2.50 goals against average and a .912 saves percentage. He split minutes between the pipes with sophomore netminder Pat Nagle throughout the season.
Nelson was pretty impressive, especially for a rookie, as he showed a lot of poise under fire and many times played well beyond what one would expect from a freshman. If he can continue to make strides, work hard in the off season and realize just how great his potential is – greater times could be ahead for this promising rookie.
As a team, the Bulldogs hit some tough times at the end of the season and finished with a record of 12-19- 7 overall including 9-15-5-2 in the CCHA.
