BLOG 32: Ferris on center stage against No. 1 Notre Dame

By Sandy Gholston

FSU Hockey BIG RAPIDS – It’s not too often Ferris State University gets to host the No. 1-ranked NCAA Division I ice hockey team in the land for a two-game series.

But, this weekend is indeed one of those opportunities as the Bulldogs host top-ranked University of Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday with both games scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. So far this season, Ferris has been nothing short of dynamite on the road in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action, but has struggled at home within Ewigleben Ice Arena. This is a great opportunity for Ferris to reestablish its dominance on home ice with the Fighting Irish, mentored by Jeff Jackson who is one of the great coaches in college hockey history, making the short trip up from northern Indiana.

This weekend’s series is a golden opportunity for Ferris (7-6-3 overall and 6-4-2-0 in the CCHA) to prove to the nation that it is playing some good college hockey this season. Notre Dame (10-3-2 overall and 6-2-2-2 in the CCHA) is a great barometer for head coach Bob Daniels’ Bulldogs.

Hopefully, Ewigleben Ice Arena will be packed to the rafters with fans. This is a huge series and a great opportunity for the enthusiastic hockey fans in Big Rapids to get a glimpse of high-quality college hockey being played here in our backyard. It’s also a chance, should the Bulldogs be successful this weekend, to reestablish Ferris on the college hockey map.
