BLOG 2: Hockey Day in Michigan always an exciting time
By Sandy Gholston
BIG RAPIDS – It is pretty difficult to live in the state of Michigan and not realize the importance of hockey – whether it’s at the professional, college or high school level.
To celebrate the sport of hockey in the state, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association has been working diligently, the last few years, to engage fans throughout the state. Although the weather is still pretty warm outdoors (although it can change in a heartbeat here in Michigan), it won’t be long before Ferris fans jam the Ewigleben Ice Arena to enjoy big-time college hockey.
“We are proud and excited that Hockey Day in Michigan (Feb. 14), launched in 2006, is now part of a nationwide celebration whose scope continues to expand each year,” CCHA commissioner Tom Anastos said. “It’s a great way for everyone involved in hockey to show their passion for the sport and share that passion with others who might consider trying it or watching it. We encourage everyone to get involved and celebrate in their own way.”
Hockey Day in Michigan is a statewide initiative that occurs during USA Hockey’s “Hockey Weekend Across America” which is scheduled for Feb. 13-15. The college hockey teams around the state as well as the Detroit Red Wings will be among those who partner up to make this a major event.
FSN Detroit will showcase two college hockey games as Ohio State will be in East Lansing to take on Michigan State, at 5:05 p.m., first, and then Nebraska-Omaha will take on Michigan at 8:05 p.m.
