BIG RAPIDS – The loyal and enthusiastic “Dawg Pound” students at Ferris State University who are great fans of college hockey have something extra to cheer about.

The Athletics Department has designated the Bulldogs’ season-opening contest with Canisius (Oct. 10), the first half of a two-game series, “Student and Rink Appreciation Night.” The Bulldogs’ opener begins at 7:05 p.m. as Ferris and the community join together to celebrate the completion of this summer’s Ewigleben Ice Arena’s $3.3 million renovation project and give something back students who work hard to pack the “Dawg Pound” section.

FSU students, who create one of the top student sections in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, invest good chunk of money into season tickets. This is a nice gesture by Ferris to invite our students to Ewigleben for free and to potentially reach out to students who are not as familiar with Bulldog hockey. It will be nice to get more students on board in what is a season for on-ice optimism at Ferris.

The second game of the series takes place Saturday (Oct. 11) at 5:05 p.m. to wrap up the season-opening non-conference series with the Golden Griffins.
