BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State All-America defensive tackle Jake Visser was not about to put the blame on any one individual or any one unit Saturday afternoon.
The Coopersville native’s motto is simple: We win as a team … we lose as a team.
“We’re all disappointed with this loss and this is something you can’t really look at it and put it on any one person,” said Visser after his team suffered a 19-0 homecoming loss to Wayne State at Top Taggart Field. “It was a team loss. It’s not just the offense … it’s all of us. If we could have gotten a few more three-and-outs we might have been able to change the momentum of the game.”
Now, the playoffs are even more of a long shot for the Bulldogs (5-3 overall and 4-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) who entered the weekend ranked 10th, in the region but will likely be out of the picture with a loss to the unranked Warriors, who improve to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
“I don’t know if we’re out of the picture for the playoffs … it certainly diminishes our chances quite a bit,” conceded Visser, who totaled 11 total tackles (seven solos) and three tackles for loss against the Warriors. “There are a lot of tough things about this loss, but there were some good things that happened too. Now, we have to focus on the good things and get ready for our next game.”
