BIG RAPIDS – It is way too early for any Ferris fans to hit the panic button as the Bulldogs currently sit in 10th place in the D2football.com regional poll.
D2football.com National Columnist Bob Eblen’s Super Regional Three rankings, Ferris is 10th with a 5-2 record. Above Ferris, however, are three teams the Bulldogs have played. Ferris lost to top-ranked Grand Valley State (6-0) and sixth-ranked Michigan Tech (5-2). The Bulldogs do own a victory over fourth-rated Ashland (5-2).
While there is some grumbling about the Bulldogs being so low in the regional rankings, it is worth noting that plenty of football still remains to be played. The Lakers are probably solidified in the top position, but Ferris, Tech and Ashland all still have some tough games remaining on their schedule. Ashland has yet to play the powerful Lakers.
So, it’s too early to panic about regional rankings. If the Bulldogs take care of business (that will not be easy with some strong competition left on the schedule) then they will put themselves in contention for a playoff spot when the bids are announced.
