BLOG 49: Bulldog football ranked prominently in the region on D2football.com

By Sandy Gholston

BIG RAPIDS – Bob Eblen, the D2football.com national columnist has Ferris ranked prominently in his Super Regional Three.

Eblen ranks the Bulldogs (4-1) fourth with the comment, “Proof that a strong defense and running game are still a recipe for football success.” Ahead of the Bulldogs, in the regional poll, are Grand Valley State (4-0), ranked first; Minnesota-Duluth (5-0), second; and Chadron State (4-1), third.

All things considered, it probably is an appropriate ranking for the Bulldogs (who also have reentered the American Football Coaches Association Division II National Poll and debuted in the D2football.com National Poll – both at No. 25).

Ferris’ lone loss this season is a 31-13 setback at Grand Valley – a team it has not defeated since 1999. This week’s opponent is a Michigan Tech program (3-2 this season) that Ferris has had almost as much trouble with in recent years. The Huskies have had their way with the Bulldogs in recent seasons and Ferris has to buck that trend and find a way to succeed in Houghton (a long trip to play in a tough environment in the Upper Peninsula). Hanging on to the high regional ranking and the national ranking will be no easy task.
