BIG RAPIDS – Tom Schneider watched from the sidelines and few people were more excited as Chad Wilso made the play of the game – a play that lifted the Bulldogs to an amazing 31-24 come-from-behind win.
Wilson returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown with 4.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs topped Northern Michigan and improved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Schneider, FSU’s starting quarterback for Ferris, had some mixed emotions after the initial interception and while Wilson’s return was beginning to take shape.
“I was thinking … ‘go Chad go’ as he first started to run,” said Schneider, who completed 7-of-20 passes for 154 yards with an interception and a touchdown. “I was looking at the clock and wondering if he was going to be able to make it all the way to the (end zone) and also wondering if he needed to get out of bounds in case we needed some time to do something. But, then I saw him going into the end zone and I was just ecstatic.”
Schneider was not the only one filled with emotion.
Said running back/receiver Tim Hogue, who finished with 141 yards rushing with two touchdowns on 23 carries, “I was just thinking ‘please go to the crib … please go to the crib and get it done.”
