BLOG 40: Full slate of important GLIAC games coming up this week

By Sandy Gholston

FSU Football BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State University’s home game this weekend against Northern Michigan is not the only key contest in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

In addition to the Bulldogs and Wildcats battling at 2 p.m., Findlay is at Northwood for a 12 p.m. kickoff, Indianapolis travels to Saginaw Valley State for a noon start, Tiffin is in Detroit at Wayne State with a noon start, Ashland is at Hillsdale with the start planned for 2:30 p.m. and Michigan Tech is in Allendale to face No. 2 Grand Valley State under the lights beginning at 7 p.m. Now that the GLIAC is well into league competition, the games hold even more importance as GVSU sits alone in first place following a 31-13 win last weekend over Ferris – in a battle of what were at the time unbeaten teams.

It’s a little early to be watching the standings, but you can bet a lot of teams will be paying close attention to other games while maintaining focus on their own contests.

Currently, GVSU is in first place at 3-0. Second place is occupied by Ferris, Hillsdale, Michigan Tech, Wayne State, Saginaw Valley State and Ashland – all at 2-1 in the league.
