BIG RAPIDS – It was not the prettiest win Ferris State University has ever scored at Top Taggart Field.
But, on the other hand, a win is a win. And, coaches will take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day of the week.
Ferris racked up almost 300 rushing yards en route to a 14-0 win over Findlay in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition.
That was impressive, but so too was the dedication of the fans who braved the tough and steady rainy conditions in Big Rapids to take part in the Bulldogs’ home opener. Sure, the fact Ferris entered the game with a 2-0 mark had to contribute to the dedication of the fans to tough it out inside of the renovated stadium – including the brand-new state-of-the-art Mondo Ecofill artificial playing surface.
Weather-wise, it looked as if the fans might bail early or never show at all. But, those who did show up were treated to perhaps one of the best-kept secrets in the GLIAC this season: a possible resurgence of Bulldog football.
A crowd of 2,773 fans stuck it out inside of Top Taggart Field and watched the Bulldogs stick to their game plan (running the football, staying tough on defense and making some necessary strides on special teams).
