BLOG 22: Get ready for a festive weekend of college football and more

By Sandy Gholston

FSU Football BIG RAPIDS – Obviously, this weekend marks the home opener for the undefeated Ferris State University football team as it entertains Findlay in a 7 p.m. contest under the lights at Top Taggart Field.

Beyond the contest between the Bulldogs and Oilers will be a host of other activities that will be part of the weekend. The evening is being billed as “Community, Fireworks & Health Care Night.” As part of the night’s events, related to the game at the stadium, there will be a fireworks display as well as the Blues & BBQ event (featuring some delicious, all-you-can-eat barbecue and a blues performance by Grand Rapids’ own Big Daddy with proceeds to help fund student scholarships).

The contest marks the official unveiling of the new spectacular Mondo Ecofill artificial playing surface (looks and feels a lot like grass – so much so it’s almost difficult to tell the difference) installed at Top Taggart Field as part of a $1 million renovation project this summer. For more information on the days events check out the press release on the Athletics Web site.
