Junior forward Audrey Thwing (Davison) of the 2005-06 Ferris State University women's basketball team has been selected this week's (Jan. 16) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week for her performance in the Bulldogs' three outings last week at FSU's Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.
She is the second FSU women's player to attain league weekly award accolades this season, joining junior guard Erin Miller (Niles) who previously was honored Dec. 5 with the award.
Thwing, who totaled 44 points and 29 rebounds as the Bulldogs won two of three home games last week, averaged 14.7 points and 9.7 rebounds in the stretch. She registered 23 points and 12 rebounds in Thursday's (Jan. 12) 66-53 league home win over Northern Michigan and then posted her second consecutive double-double effort with 13 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's (Jan. 14) 82-80 home loss at the buzzer versus Lake Superior State.
Thwing started the week with eight points and seven rebounds in only 21 minutes of play Monday (Jan. 9) as FSU defeated Marygrove 82-56 in non-league play. She shot 58.8% (20-34) from the floor in the three outings.
The 5-11 Thwing has posted a double-double (points & rebounds) in five of her last seven outings to date this campaign. She presently ranks as FSU's leading rebounder (7.1 rpg) and fourth-leading scorer (11.6 ppg) this season. Thwing played in 26 contests during the 2004-05 campaign and averaged 2.7 points along with 2.0 rebounds per outing after seeing action in four contests as a freshman in 2003-04.
Ferris State, which is presently 10-6 overall and 4-3 in GLIAC action this campaign, will host Mercyhurst Thursday, Jan. 19, for a 6 p.m. (EST) league tilt in Wink Arena. The contest will be the first game of a women’s and men’s league doubleheader with the men’s game scheduled for an 8 p.m. (EST) tipoff.
