FERRIS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ADDS ANDREA CLANCY

North Huron High School Product Becomes FSU’s Latest Signee

Eighth-year Ferris State University women’s basketball head coach Tracey Bloodworth-Fisk has announced the addition of Andrea Clancy (Port Austin/North Huron) who has committed to attend FSU and play women’s basketball beginning with the 2006-07 academic year.

A 6-2 forward/center, Clancy averaged 18.5 points and 15 rebounds per game as a senior in 2005 for North Huron High School in Kinde, Mich. She led the squad to the North Central Thumb League Championship and a regional tournament appearance in her final prep season while being chosen to the Associated Press Class D All-State Girls Basketball Team. Clancy was a first-team Detroit Free Press and second-team Detroit News Class D All-State pick in 2005.

Andrea Clancy "Andrea's a versatile post player with good court awarness," said Bloodworth-Fisk. "She's eager to move on to the college level and excited about the opportunity to work with our players.

"Andrea finds ways to score and will draw attention inside, which will help open up our perimeter game."

A three-time all-conference honoree, Clancy compiled 17.5 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots a game while helping North Huron claim a district championship with a 17-6 overall record as a junior in 2004. She tallied 15 points, 13 boards and two blocks per contest as NHHS posted a 13-8 overall mark during the 2003 campaign.

A three-time honorable mention all-state recipient, Clancy served as the squad’s team captain in her final season under head coach Ken Yaroch. She attained team Most Valuable Player Award accolades three times in her prep career along with being named to the Huron Daily Tribune All-Star Team.

Clancy, who was ranked among the state’s top players by the Detroit Free Press, also took part in the Michigan All-State Girls Basketball Camp and received all-star team kudos.

Besides basketball, Clancy has also competed in both softball and volleyball during her prep career. She received volleyball team MVP Award recognition as a junior and also helped guide the softball team to a district championship as a freshman. The volleyball squad won a district crown in 2004 as Clancy received first-team all-conference and all-area honors.

The daughter of Doug and Lori Clancy, Andrea remains undecided on an academic major at Ferris State. Clancy, who’s also been active in the school’s National Honor Society and Student Council, joins Stephanie DeNoyelles (Mt. Pleasant/Sacred Heart) as members of FSU’s current recruiting class.

Ferris State, which is currently 3-4 overall, will visit Lake Superior State Friday, Dec. 16, for a 5:30 p.m. (EST) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) encounter in LSSU’s Bud Cooper Gymnasium at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
