Senior guard Lucy DeMartin (Mason) of the 2003-04 Ferris State women's basketball team has been named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) College Academic-Athletic Honor Team for the second consecutive year in an announcement made Wednesday (April 28) by the BCAM.

The five-member team recognizes outstanding scholar-athletes from Michigan colleges and universities at the NCAA I, II, III and NAIA levels. Selected players must be either a starter or key reserve and have at least a 3.2 grade point average. The BCAM teams were selected on the basis of academic achievement, athletic accomplishment, grade point average and BCAM membership. A 2003-04 Division II Women’s Basketball Bulletin Honorable Mention All-America selection, DeMartin was joined on the squad by Lake Superior State’s Allyson Conaway, Jayme Wilson of Oakland, Michigan Tech’s Andrea Novak and Erika Ford of Eastern Michigan.

DeMartin, who previously attained both first-team 2003-04 Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region and All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division honors, concluded her career as the school's all-time scoring leader with 1,721 career points. In addition, she posted a school single-season record 567 points this season and received first-team 2003-04 Verizon Academic All-America College Division kudos. DeMartin was also a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Great Lakes Region First Team selection and among 40 national finalists for the NCAA Division II Kodak/WBCA All-America Team.

DeMartin, who ranked as FSU's leading scorer (18.3 ppg) this season, finished her career as the school's leader with 402 made free throws and is listed among Ferris' all-time top 10 performers in field goals (605), steals (198), assists (356), rebounds (415), blocked shots (35), three-point field goals (109), three-point field goal percentage (.344) and free throw percentage (.778).

A 2002-03 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Great Lakes Region First-Team selection, DeMartin was previously named to the 2003-04 Division II Women's Basketball Bulletin Preseason Super 16 All-America Team and chosen as the publication’s preseason GLIAC Player of the Year. Her team-leading 20.2 points per game scoring average in 2002-03 ranked first among the school’s all-time leaders and placed second in the GLIAC’s overall statistical rankings.

The team co-captain guided FSU to its second-ever NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance this campaign. The Bulldogs, who concluded the year with a 21-10 overall record, compiled a second-place 14-4 GLIAC North Division mark this campaign and finished second in the league's 2003-04 postseason tournament.

The Bulldogs have presently had a player named to the BCAM Academic-Athletic Honor Team three of the last four seasons to date as former standout Debbie Killips (1998-02) garnered first-team kudos in 2000-01.

The BCAM, which was incorporated in 1976, is the voice of basketball in Michigan and offers support for the game at all levels. The organization has also gained respectability nationwide by being a leader in clinics, academic awards, scholarship programs, newsletters and awards for players and coaches. BCAM, which presently has over 2,800 members, exists to represent and serve basketball coaches for the betterment of the game. In an effort to promote academics throughout the state, BCAM also honors the top student-athletes on a yearly basis.
